History of The Toastmaster
In medieval times, men were employed as experts on the quality of wine, checking the ingredients laid before them, and this was stirred into a main pot by the use of a fork with a piece of bread on it, after this was placed in a flame - hence the name Master Of The Toasts. In 1649 a article in the Tatler talks of 3 gentlemen in the town of Bath, who scooped water from the spar and in the bottom was a soggy piece of bread (toast), Where upon they embarked on pledging the Health of the Women of Bath. This was the first recorded toast by Witty Baldarchy.
